Dr. Rhona Foster, Chartered Counselling Psychologist

About
Rhona
I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (Registration Number PYL044254). I am also a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. I have a wide range of experience providing psychological therapy in various settings, for example:
-
Primary care within the NHS where I worked alongside a GP practice.
-
Higher education where I assisted university students experiencing psychological distress.
-
Providing support for people experiencing difficulties around pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent.
-
Working with people affected by cancer in all different ways, supporting those with a diagnosis and family members who are also distressed.
Before becoming a psychologist, I was a Registered Nurse working within the NHS in both medical and surgical settings, and I have a good understanding of the health care system and how illness can affect our psychological health.

My Approach
I take a collaborative approach to therapy
I am a warm and compassionate practitioner who provides a safe and non-judgemental space for therapy. Face to face sessions take place at The Wellbeing Rooms in Stepps or Bearsden, which are lovely, clean, welcoming spaces.

I also provide online sessions. These are conducted through WriteUpp, a secure online platform that specialises in health appointments. This is easy to use and confidential.

What to expect
It’s really normal to feel nervous when starting therapy. This tends to pass quickly and is something we can talk about together. During our first few sessions, we will work in a collaborative way to understand what’s going on for you and what you want to focus on. We use this understanding to decide what approaches to use and what might suit you best. We do this together, and your opinion and preferences are always very important.

As a Counselling Psychologist, I am trained in multiple ways of working. This means we can work in an individualised way, integrating elements from different therapies. This means our approach will be tailored to you.
Our work might include elements of:
-
Person-Centred and Experiential Therapy
-
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy
-
Compassion-Focused Therapy.

We have regular reviews during therapy to make sure you are getting what you need, and I am always willing to hear feedback and make any changes.

There is no minimum or maximum number of sessions. Everybody’s needs are different, and we will try to adapt our approach to suit your requirements.
